Author Guidelines

1. SUBMISSION

Thank

you for your interest in World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology – Head

& Neck Surgery (WJOHNS). Note that submission implies that the

content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere

except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or

symposium.

World

Journal of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (WJOHNS) now

offers Free Format submission for a simplified and streamlined

submission process.

Cover letter

A

cover letter should be included in the ‘Cover Letter Field’ of the

ScholarOne system. The text can be entered directly into the field or

uploaded as a file.

The cover letter must contain:

i)

A statement confirming the paper has not been published or submitted

for publication elsewhere except as a brief abstract in the proceedings

of a scientific meeting or symposium;

ii)

An acknowledgment that all authors have contributed significantly and

in keeping with the latest guidelines of the International Committee of

Medical Journal Editors, each author’s contribution to the paper is to

be described, i.e., what role each author participated in;

iii) a statement confirming that all authors are in agreement with the content of the manuscript.

2. AIMS AND SCOPE

The

World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (WJOHNS)

is an international peer-reviewed journal which encompasses advances in

clinical practice, as well as contributions in basic and translational

research pertaining to the field of otorhinolaryngology – head and neck

surgery. Submissions related to all aspects of the field are highly

encouraged including those in head and neck surgery and oncology, facial

plastic and reconstructive surgery, laryngology, neurolaryngology,

rhinology, skull base surgery, otology, neurotology, sleep medicine and

surgery, as well as pediatric and general otolaryngology. Original

papers exploring related fields such as allergy and immunology,

maxillofacial rehabilitation, audiology, auditory and vestibular

neuroscience, vestibular therapy, speech and swallowing disorders, and

craniofacial pathology are encouraged.

3. MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS

(1) Original Article

Description: Full-length reports of current research in either basic or clinical science.

Word

limit: 4000 words maximum including abstract but excluding references,

tables and figures. Abstract: 250 words maximum, with sub-headers.

References: no limit. Figures/tables: no limit, but 8 figures should be

sufficient.

Subdivision

- Numbered Sections: Divide your article into clearly defined and

numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1,

1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc. The abstract is not included in section

numbering. Use this numbering also for internal cross-referencing: do

not just refer to "the text". Any subsection may be given a brief

heading. Each heading should appear on its own separate line.

Abstract:

The abstract may follow the structured or unstructured format, as

determined by the author of the submission. The objective is to provide a

concise overview of the proceeding text.

Introduction:

State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background,

avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

Material

and methods: Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be

reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a

reference, and only relevant modifications should be described.

Results: Results should be comprehensive but concise.

Discussion:

This should explore the significance of the results of the work, and

should not simply repeat the results. A combined Results and Discussion

section is often appropriate. Avoid extensive citations and discussion

of published literature.

Conclusions:

The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short

Conclusions section, which may appear alone or form a subsection of a

Discussion, or Results and Discussion section.

(2) Editorial

Description:

Proposals for Editorials may be submitted; however, in this case

authors should only send an outline of the proposed paper for initial

consideration.

Word Limit: 1500 words maximum. Abstract: not required. References: 5 maximum.
